Bio

Ron Mancil has been creating art since 1980. He sold his first painting in 1981 at the “Patchwork Derby” in his hometown of Andalusia, Alabama.

Ron has painted many commissions over the years and now, through the use of social media, has sold his original art and prints nationwide and in Europe and Canada.

As a member of the Fine Art Society of Middle Georgia, Ron won awards at the Middle Georgia Art Show and at The Georgia National Fair in Perry.

Ron’s art can be seen in many homes and businesses in South Alabama and Georgia. His original art and prints can be purchased at Fine Lines Art & Frame Gallery in Newnan, Georgia.

In 2020, Ron began painting with pen and watercolor in a style urban sketchers call “line and wash”. This technique starts as a pen sketch with several layers of watercolor applied afterward.

For sketching, Ron uses a TWSBI fountain pen with waterproof Platinum Carbon Ink, or Pigma Micron pens. For watercolor he uses Winsor and Newton, and QoR paints.

Materials I use:

  • Paper – Strathmore 400, 140 lb. 300 gm Cold Press, 9 x 12, 11 x 14 and 11×17.
  • Pens – (Black) TWSBI Eco fountain pen with Platinum Carbon ink. I also use Pigma Micron, Staedtler and Faber-Castell fine liners in .03, .01 and .005 sizes.
  • Pens (White) – 05 Sakura Gelly Roll for fine lines and Signo Broad Uni-Ball for thicker lines. I also sometimes use Uni POSCA pens in sizes PC-1M and PC-1MR.
  • Paint – I mainly use Winsor & Newton professional watercolors. I also use QoR by Golden. For neon watercolor, I use Paul Rubens. For white I use gouache.
  • Brushes – I put a lot of details and fine lines in my sketches… I found Princeton Select and Princeton Heritage brands to be very good for me.
  • Ruler – NEVER

Beside High School Art class, Ron is a completely self-taught artist. His art can be seen online on his Facebook pages “Ron Mancil Art” and on Instagram @ronmancilart.
